Mildura Goes All Digital!

Regional TV Australia traveled to Mildura on 30th June, 2010 to watch the first Analog TV Transmitters get switched off. This region was chosen for to be the first area in Australia to have the Analog services switched off due to the vast majority of people in the area upgrading to digital to take advantage of extra channels only provided in Digital format.

The Analog signals were switched off at 9:00am by Bob Kovac, a long time STV 8 (WIN) Engineer under the phone direction of the Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy.

The YouTube video below shows the coverage of this event on WIN News Mildura later in the day at 6:30pm. To mark the occasion, the bulletin was presented live from a balcony in the heart of Mildura’s CBD.

I was unable to record the last moments of Analog TV in Mildura, because the motel I stayed at had already converted to digital equipment. However, I did manage to pick up a faint SBS Analog signal and saw it fade out to snow on a portable TV at 9:00am!
